Summary: Purpose: The aim of our study is to present four patients with wet form of age-related macular degeneration treated with intravitreal injections of ranibizumab and aflibercept.
Material and methods: First, all patients were treated with ranibizumab injections with “pro re nata” regimen during the maintenance phase of therapy. Because of the drug has been ineffective or the response has decreased gradually after repeated injections authors decided to start therapy with aflibercept.
Results: In all cases authors observed improvement of anatomical results after switch to aflibercept but didn’t always find an improvement in visual acuity.
Conclusions: In some cases treatment with aflibercept can be more effective than previous therapy with ranibizumab. We can conclude that decreased response to ranibizumab injections should be a reason to switch to aflibercept.
