Summary: Glaucoma is a form of neurodegeneration, which can lead to total loss of vision. Lowering the intraocular pressure is the cornerstone of therapy for glaucoma. Unfortunately, often despite its stabilization process can be still caused by the phenomenon of secondary degeneration. To prevent the proper conduct of the patient with glaucoma it seems to apply on neuroprotection. The following paper is intended to bring the current state of knowledge on mechanism of the disease and use of neuroprotection in glaucoma.
