Summary: Choroidal morphology and physiology disorders underlie many eye conditions, including chorioretinopathies and degenerative diseases. Changes in the choroidal parameters are also found in systemic diseases. The precise choroid assessment has been unavailable for a long time in optical coherence tomography, commonly used in ophthalmology. Choroidal imaging was based primarily on ultrasonography, indocyanin angiography or histopathological evaluation. Although these methods are still used, the evolution of optical coherence tomography technology has allowed for precise in vivo choroidal evaluation. Moreover, optical coherence tomography angiography allows non-invasive blood flow imaging in choroidal vessels, mainly in the choriocapillaris layer. However, more precise imaging brings new challenges. The article presents the current possibilities for the evaluation of the choroid with particular emphasis on optical coherence tomography.
