Summary: Stargardt’s disease is the most common macular dystrophy. It is associated with progressive damage of the retinal pigment epithelium layer and photoreceptor layer. It leads to central vision loss with preserved peripheral vision. Most often manifests between the age of 7 to 12 years. 90% of cases are inherited in autosomal recessive form.
The use of standard perimetry is not very useful for assessing the progression of Stargardt's disease because of the central fixation lack in such patients. Use of microperimetry equipped with an automatic eye – tracking of the eye movements allows to obtain reliable result even with unstable fixation. Microperimetry allows staging of the Stargardt’s disease, monitoring it’s progress and assessing disease progression.
We present the case of a 26 year old woman with Stargardt's disease with the fundus flavimaculatus remaining on our observation from the age of 12. The patient underwent visual rehabilitation training with biofeedback function of MP1 microperimeter. Patient conducted five training sessions once a week for 10 minutes for each eye. After a series of training more centric and stability of fixation in both eyes was observed slight improvement in near visual acuity.
The use of biofeedback rehabilitation of MP1 microperimeter allows the visual rehabilitation of patients suffering from Stargardt’s disease.
