Summary: Aim of this study is to investigate the latest knowledge on accommodation disorders including the structure and functions of the ciliary muscle and the theoretical attempt to explain the impact of stress on the accommodation. A condition, called spasm of accommodation (excessive contraction of the ciliary muscle), can be functional or it may be caused by more serious underlying disease. Usually it is triggered by anxiety, depression, resulting in blurry vision, intermittent diplopia and intermittent myopia. The mechanism is uncertain. The condition is often self-limiting, but if it persists for long periods of time or if it interferes with the ability to function, treatment may be needed.

Słowa kluczowe: akomodacja, autonomiczne unerwienie, mięsień rzęskowy, skurcz akomodacji.
