Summary: Mitochondrial Kjer’s optic neuropaty is the most common form of genetic optic neuropathy. It has autosomal dominant form inheritance. Symptoms like decrease visual acuity start usually in the early childhood. Typical findings are bilateral optic disc pallor and centrocecal scotomas in visual field testing. Often extraophthhalmic findings coexist such as sensorineural hearing loss. It is diagnosed with the clinical findings, electrophysiology and molecular genetic testing. So far there is no effective treatment but genetic tests are under investigation.
