Summary: Postoperative endophthalmitis is rare but serious ocular complication of intraocular surgery with a potential to lead to permanent and profound vision loss.
Prompt and appropriate treatment can improve visual outcome. Pars plana vitrectomy combined with intravitreal vancomycin (tapping) represents the standard treatment for acute infectious endophthalmitis. The technological advances of small-gauge vitrectomy (23G) seem to afford the visual benefit in patients with infectious endophthalmitis.
