Wyniki badań ostrości wzroku u pacjentów z wszczepioną soczewką Tecnis Symfony

Visual Acuity Results in Patients Implanted with Tecnis Symfony IOLs

Summary: Purpose: To present visual acuity results after implantation of Symfony IOLs during cataract phacoemulsification.
Patient and Methods: Between August 2014 and February 2015 we implanted 18 Symfony lenses in 13 patients (5 F and 4 M) aged from 25 to 83 years. For IOL calculations we used an optical biometer IOL Master (Zeiss) and an ultrasound unit of Tomey. The surgery was performed in topical anesthesia with a Geuder Megatron S4 phacoemulsifier. Anterior capsulorhexis of 5.0 to 5.5 mm diameter and posterior of 4.5 mm diameter was performed in all patients except one 83-year-old female where posterior capsulorhexis was skipped. Distance and near visual acuity were measured with Snellen plates before surgery and one day, one week, one month, 3 and 6 month postoperatively. Preoperative distance VA with correction varied from 0.1 to 1.0 and near VA was in the range from 20/50 to 20/20 with correction; only one patient with traumatic cataract could not read.
Results: Postoperatively Distance VA was between 0.7 and 1.25 without correction and for near it varied from 20/40 to 20/10 without correction. Binocular VA for near was full in all patients but one 83 year-old lady who needed an addition of +1.5 D to achieve full vision.
Conclusions: Intraocular lenses Tecnis Symfony are well tolerated and with appropriate postoperative refraction (mini-monovision) provide high spectacles independence both for distance and near. Visual disturbances characteristic for diffractive multifocal lenses were minimal, limited to a “cobweb” appearance when looking at light sources. Posterior capsulorhexis is a safe method eliminating secondary cataract.
