Summary: The paper presents a case of 20-year-old woman treated for bilateral optic disc edema. Based on the survey the most common causes of the disease were excluded. The diagnostics had to be extended to research in the field of gastroenterology and required the cooperation of specialists in this field due to variations in the results of laboratory. Based on the survey, it was found that the cause of optic disc edema was celiac disease. After excluding gluten from the diet ophthalmologic symptoms began to subside. Trying to incorporate small amounts of gluten resulted in their relapse. After consulting gastroenterological strict gluten-free diet was included again, whereby the symptoms disappeared. Cooperation between gastroenterologist and an ophthalmologist in the treatment of patient enabled effective treatment – lasting relief of edema of the optic nerves discs.
