Summary: The therapy for hereditary optic nerve diseases is a huge challenge for modern medicine. With the development of modern treatment’s methods, patients’ expectations and hopes are rising. In the last decades, there have been many studies on gene therapy, including studies on gene therapy in the Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON). Currently, two Phase 3 trials (RESCUE and REVERSE) are running, regarding the possibility of introducting gene therapy in LHON.
