Ocena splotu powierzchownego metodą angiografii optycznej koherentnej tomografii u chorych na retinopatię cukrzycową
Superficial Capillary Plexus Assesssment using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in Patients with Diabetic Retinopathy

Summary: Purpose: The aim of this study is to present the use of optical coherence tomography angiography in the study of vascular changes in patients with diabetic retinopathy.
Material and Methods: 20 patients from the Ophthalmic Clinic of the District Railway Hospital in Katowice with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy were tested using optical coherence tomography angiography Swept Source DRI OCT Triton Plus. OCT-A images with the field
of 3 mm x 3 mm and 6 mm x 6 mm macular scans were performed. Inclusion and exlusion criteria were specified. Results: Forty OCT-As of 40 eyes were analyzed due to vascular changes in superficial capillary plexus. A mean percentage of Foveal Avascular Zone area is 2.5% in 6 mm x 6 mm macular scans. 58% of examined eyes had proper Foveal Avascular Zone circularity. Paracentral fixation and Foveal Avascular Zone shift from the center of the scans were photographed in 35% of eyes. Diabetic macular edema was observed in 60% of patients and an average central retinal thickness was 281.12. 6 mm x 6 mm optical coherence tomography angiography images revealed ischemic areas in superficial capilary plexus from 3 patients. The average number of microaneurysms in 3 mm x 3 mm scans was 0.12 while in 6 mm x 6 mm field of view was 3.1. Artefacts were shown in 40% of images.
Conclusions: Optical coherence tomography angiography is an effective examination for diabetic retinopathy because vascular changes and ischemic areas might be registered. However, lots of artefacts and sometimes doubtful reliability of optical coherence tomography angiography examination inhibits or makes interpretation impossible.
