Summary: Ultrasound imaging of the eye was first employed over half century ago and it has been widely used since then. The rapid development of this method enables doctors to diagnose and monitor eye diseases with increasing precision.
Ultrasound examination provides crucial information regarding the diagnosis of eye diseases as well as it helps to precisely tailor the appropriate therapy. This non-invasive method proves to be indispensable in the presence of opaque ocular media. Safety of this imaging and instant feedback for the physician make it immensely useful in the clinical setting.
In standard applications the frequencies of 10 MHz and 35- 50 MHz are used for examination of the posterior and anterior segment of the eye, respectively.
This article aims to provide a brief overview of 10MHz ultrasonography, including its limitations and application.
