Summary: Introduction: Purpose of this study is to present the symptoms and development of the disease, the pathway of therapeutic treatment and the results of treatment in patient with Purtscher-like retinopathy secondary to acute pancreatitis and demonstrate the efficiency of the therapy and possible complications after one year.
Case presentation: A forty-five-year-old patient with Purtscher-like retinopathy secondary to the acute pancreatitis. The diagnosis was based on the examination of the anterior and posterior segment of the eyes in slit lamp and ophthalmoscope, extended by additional tests: fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography of the retina and optic disc. From the onset of symptoms to the administration by ophthalmologist passed the six days’ time. Patient control in the ophthalmology office after hospitalization and treatment at the Adult Ophthalmology Ward were held on schedule: 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months since the onset of symptoms and included: distance and near visual acuity measurement, intraocular pressure, optical coherence tomography of the retina and optic disc, visual field testing – kinetic and static perimetry, fluorescein angiography and electrophysiological examination of the eyes.
Conclusions: Used drugs resulted in partial improvement of functional and morphological conditions of central retina. A one year follow up after treatment showed functional and morphological stabilization of central retina and no recurrence of the disease.
In the presented case, a patient with Purtscher-like retinopathy secondary to acute pancreatitis, generally and locally use of steroids, antibiotics and drugs recuperate the rheological functions of the organism, improved visual acuity and reduced retinal hemorrhage and optic nerve oedema. The drugs used resulted in partial improvement in patient’s vision. A one year follow up after start of treatment, showed functional and morphological stabilization of the central retina and no recurrence of the disease. Used treatment seems to be effective in Purtscher-like retinopathy treatment schem
