Summary: Both hypertension and glaucoma are known as the ?civilization? diseases. Hypertension and complications due to it in cardiac, renal and nervous system are one of the commonest hospitalization causes. Hypertension is also the commonest glaucoma risk factor occurring, especially in normal tension glaucoma. Intraocular pressure (IOP) has been found to be associated with systemic blood pressure levels in population based studies. It has been postulated that treatment of hypertension and low diastolic blood pressure may cause a relatively increased risk of glaucoma damage progression. Sudden blood pressure lowering is also associated with visual field loss in some people. Changes in blood pressure levels influence progression of the structural defects in optic disc imaging (HRT). Blood pressure both high and too low, especially diastolic, is known independent risk factor for morphological and functional deficits in the optic nerve.

Keywords: glaucoma, hypertension, diastolic ocular perfusion, blood pressure
