Summary: Purpose: Long-term outcomes of hydrops diathermocoagulation with amniotic membrane transplantation.
Methods: Surgery was performed in 15 patients (6 women and 9 men; at mean age 31.14 ± 9.92 years) in District Railway Hospital in Katowice from November 2005 to October 2008. Follow-up time was 1.5-3.5 years. Diathermocoagulation was performed with 1mm tip, cornea was then covered with amniotic membrane as a bandage. We analysed: CCT, BCVA, patient’s comfort of life and influence on further treatment of keratoconus.
Results: Corneal edema was cred in all oserved patients in mean time 15.7 ± 5.78 days. Mean CCT 4 weeks after surgery was 487.24 ± 19.57 µm, 8 weeks post op was 463.59 ± 17.21 µm. BCVA 4 weeks after surgery was mean 0.18 ± 0.28 (before surgey: 0.042 ± 0.27). Three patients (20%) required in 2 years postoperative period keratoplasty.
Conclusion: Diathermocoagulation reduces effectively corneal edema in hydrops patients allowing to dalay keratoplasty in selected patients.
