Summary: In the work a short trait of the development of the inpatient care including ophthalmological treatment in children was described, in an area of Łódź and the Łódź region in period 1945-2005. A history of the formation of branches of pediatric ophthalmology, their work and figures of the most distinguished doctors in this domain of medicine were discussed. In the first years children were being hospitalized at the Clinic of Eye Diseases of Medical Schools (now it is Medical Academy). Next ophthalmological wards for children were formed at the J. Korczak Hospital, and at Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital, and at Medical University. Two last departments are still treating children with an eye diseases still.
