Summary: Purpose: To compare anterior segment measurements and morphology obtained from two anterior segment optical coherence tomography systems.
Methods: 30 healthy volunteers (30 eyes) were recruited for the study. Automatic central corneal thickness (aCCT), manual central corneal thickness (mCCT) and anterior chamber depth (ACD) were measured three times during one visit using two systems: 1310 nm time domain OCT (TD OCT) and 1310 nm swept source spectral OCT (SS OCT). Anterior segment morphology was assessed and compared.
Results: Mean values of aCCT, mCCT and ACD by TD OCT and SS OCT were as follows: aCCT 546.54 ± 27.96 μm, 556.96 ± 28.66 μm; mCCT 548.35 ± 27.35 μm, 548.93 ± 29.60 μm; ACD 3.03 ± 0.23 mm, 2.96 ± 0.24 mm.
There was no significant difference between mean values and they were highly correlated. Bland-Altman analysis revealed mean difference between TD and SS OCT: aCCT 10.4 μm (± 1.96 SD; ± 9.8 μm); mCCT 0.6 μm (± 1.96 SD; ± 33.3 μm); ACD 0.07 μm (± 1.96 SD; ± 0.13 μm). Morphologic analysis of the two OCT systems proved that SSOCT allows better epithelium visualization.
Conclusions: Although the results of the anterior eye segment measurements show no significant differences and the values are highly correlated, two systems may not be used interchangeably due to the differences revealed using Bland-Altman analysis.
