Summary: Aim of study: To present the image of retinal macroaneurysm in optical coherent tomography (OCT) and changes associated with this vascular pathology based on OCT findings in 4 patients.
Material and Methods: 4 patients (2 female and 2 male) with lesions typical for macroaneurysm in clinical and angiofluroescein exam were under observation. OCT exam was performed in each patient several times, typical images of macroaneurysm were obtained; the OCT was also used to evaluate the dynamic of lesions. One patient was treated with laser photocoagulation due to massive macular oedema.
Results: macroaneurysms were located on upper temporal artery or its branches (3 cases) and lower temporal artery (1 case). Visual acuity deteriorated in two cases because of coexisting macular oedema.
Conclusion:
1. OCT shows a typical image of macroaneurysm, it is a valuable diagnostic tool for diagnosing and monitoring of this pathology.
2. In some cases macronaeurysms decrease visual acuity due to macular oedema, OCT is the best exam to evaluate the quantitative changes.
3. OCT may be used to asses the activity of macroaneurysm.
4. Qualification for laser photocoagulation should be based on OCT evaluation of macular oedema.
