Zastosowanie dorzolamidu w leczeniu obrzęku drobnotorbielowatego plamki u pacjentów ze zwyrodnieniem barwnikowym siatkówki – obserwacje 3-miesięczne

Dorzolamide Applications in the Treatment of Cystoid Macular Edema in Patients with Retinitis Pigmentosa – Three-month Observations

Summary: Purpose: To determine the value of a topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor (Trusopt) for cystoid macular oedema (CME) treatment in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
Material and Methods: Eight eyes of five patients (aged from 20 to 58 years): 2 ♀ and 3 ♂ with RP and CME were treated with Trusopt for 3 months (3 times daily). Before and after treatment following tests were performed: visual acuity (log MAR), the foveal and parafoveal retinal thickness (optical coherence tomography – OCT) and function (multifocal ERG-mfERG). Obtained results were analyzed and considered significant at p ≤0.05. Intervisit change was statistically significant when: visual acuity difference of ≥7 letters; foveal thickness (FT) change >16% and foveal zone thickness (FZT) from pretreatment >11% (OCT); coefficient of variation (CV) >36% for P1 response density and >8% for the P1 implicit time.
Results: After dorzolamide treatment statistically significant differences were not found and consisted with: visual acuity, foveal thickness and function. Only in two eyes of one patient visual acuity improvement, which correlated with foveal structure and function was detected. In the rest eyes of patients after dorzolamide treatment improvement was not achieved.
Conclusions: Three months follow-up study of patients with RP with associated CME treated with Trusopt indicate limited therapeutic value, however in some cases this treatment can be highly effective.
