Summary: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (pseudotumor cerebri) is a high intracranial hypertension, whose specific cause cannot be established. Headache is the most common symptom, usually generalized, the strongest in the morning. Nausea and vomiting, photophobia and pulsating tinnitus may occur. Ocular symptoms are usually in the form of unilateral or bilateral transient visual obscurations, swelling of the optic disc; the visual field defects are also observed. For the purpose of diagnosis imaging studies of the central nervous system, and lumbar puncture are performed. Pharmacological therapy is the basic treatment which leads to reduction in the cerebrospinal fluid pressure. In the absence of improvement, surgical treatment is used.
