Advanced Glaucoma – Which Treatment Method Should be Preferred?

Summary: Advanced glaucoma often progresses instead of treatment and frequently ends-up with blindness.
Purpose: presentation of current views on various treatment methods of the advanced glaucoma.
Method: it was assumed, that it is right to diagnose glaucoma advancement stage evaluating visual filed defects. Long-term results of the advanced glaucoma treatment were discussed using surgical procedure or ALT, presented in AGIS study and results of early glaucoma treatment using conventional or surgical therapy, presented in CIGTS study.
Studies results were confronted with British authors published in 2011, suggesting preferred in advanced glaucoma surgical treatment over conventional one and opinions of distinguished glaucomatologists on that issue repoerted in IGIS in 2011.
Finally, 5-year observation of the female patient with advanced glaucoma was prepsented, in whom in spite of conventional treatment, laser SLT was performed twice, simultaneously intensively treating hyperlipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia.
During over 5-years follow-up no progression was observed in that patient.
