Summary: In this paper we present our own experience in comparative, pararel diagnostic examinations performed using two different types of scanning laser polarimeters: GDx Pro and GDx VCC (both by Carl Zeiss Meditec) in the group of 25 glaucoma or glaucoma suspected patients. We included subjects with high probability of existance so called “atypical polarimetric scans”, i.e. high myopic with peripapillary atrophy, incipient catatract, posterior capsular opacities, high astigmatism and corneal postinflammatory opacities. Due to new image processing algorithm implemented in GDx Pro, we have obtained retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) scans of considerably better quality with this device, comparing to GDx VCC. Existing RNFL lesions were better revealed in GDx Pro improving the diagnostic value of this polarimeter. This improvement is also possibile due to some new features, like automatic pupil positioning, real time fundus viewing and implemented autorefractometer.
