Summary: The aim of our paper is to present the case of echinococcosis of the right eye in the 12 years old girl, who was followed up for 21 months. Fundus ophthalmoscopy of the right eye showed oval, elevated spot of the macula with a clear boundaries and the surrounding subretinal hemorrhage. Serological examination revealed elevated Echinococcus antibodies. After obtaining positive serological tests for echinococcosis, the patient received anti-parasitic medications. The significant clinical improvement was observed after 21 months of anti-parasitic treatment.
The diagnosis of ocular form of echinococcosis might be difficult. Serological tests play the primary role in the diagnostic management of echinococcosis. Due to the possibility of relapse, patients with echinococcosis should be carefully followed up.
