Summary: Astigmatism is a refractive error, which diagnosis and treatment is a challenge for ophthalmologists. At present, patient with astigmatism has increasing expectations for quality of vision and consequently quality of life improvement. The development of technology has allowed ophthalmologists to use more accurate diagnostic equipment to facilitate the diagnosis of the causes of astigmatism as well as it was possible due to introduction of modern surgical techniques. Our work presents an literature overview on causes of methods, diagnosis and treatment of astigmatism.
