Summary: Effective communication between physician and patient is an important part of medical practice. The communication quality, namely the way of conveying information and the appropriate choice of words, has a significant influence on the disease diagnosis process and recovery mechanisms. The doctor-patient communication is an im¬portant component of patient care. The ability to communicate is crucial for diagnosing and treating illness. When it comes to chronic diseases, it becomes a form of therapy. Interpersonal communication is one of the key areas of the quality of medical services and when systematically improved allows to meet patients’ needs. The aim of the study is to identify elements of interpersonal communication with patients suffering from chronic ocular diseases, which according to the authors, are essential in the treatment process. The article presented essential links of transferring and receiving information as well as the most important techniques of active listening. The authors emphasize that communication with patients is an art that can be learned and should be mastered. Moreover, it provides new tools in the fight against disease.
