Macula – the Place of Many Pathological Lesions Development

Summary: Many various lesions located in macula may mimic exudative age-related macular degeneration, making serious problems in establishing the proper diagnosis. It is associated with a wide spectrum of clinical pictures of this degenerative disease. The establishing the diagnosis is very important in delivering an apprioprate care and avoiding treatment that may not be necessary.
The aim of this study is to present, based on our own experience, the most common macular disorders, referred to our department as the exudative age- -related macular degeneration. We present the clinical picture, results of fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography of epiretinal membrane, perifoveal telangiectasia, central serous chorioretinopathy and adult vitelliform macular dystrophy – conditions that in some cases may resemble age-related macular degeneration.
