Summary: The aging of the population in Europe and the world is an inevitable phenomenon, with unprecedented intensity and scale. In developed countries, the elderly are the fastest growing population group, with number of health and socioeconomic consequences. Involution processes are the result of multiple biological transformations, causing loss of balance inside the body, contributing to the emergency of many diseases. Among the diseases affecting elderly patients, those associated with eye are very important because they have a direct impact on the quality of life. The most common eye diseases in this social group include presbyopia, cataract, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diseases of the ocular adnexae.
