Summary: Endophthalmitis is one of the most important and the most destructive diseases of the eye. Most often it develops as a result of microorganisms penetration into the interior of the eye after a surgery or penetrating injuries. In some cases inflammation develops as a result of the spread of infectious agents through a hematogenous route from distant inflammation centres within the body. Due to the severity and the serious prognosis the most important aspect of the procedure is the early and correct diagnosis of intraocular inflammation and adequate treatment implementation. The article discusses the most common exogenous and endogenous endophthalmitis infection in clinical practice.
