Summary: The aim of the article is to present the history of aberrometry. Aberrations are distortions of visual waves caused by irregularities of the refractive components of the eye like tear film, cornea, aqueous humor, crystalline lens and vitreous humor. They can also occur due to scarring of the cornea from eye surgery, trauma or disease. Aberrations can be split into low and high order. Low order aberrations include prism, spherical defocus and astigmatism and can be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. High-order aberrations include trefoil and coma, both of which are related to irregularities of astigmatism. History of aberrometry goes 400 years back when Scheiner designed his disk and there has been tremendous progress in this field till nowdays.
