Vitreous Imaging by Ultrasound Examination in Ophthalmology

Summary: Examination of the vitreous in ophthalmology is an essential element in the diagnosis of many ophthalmic disorders. Ultrasound imaging of the vitreous chamber and pathological changes of this part of the eye is an important diagnostic element. Due to the possibility of imaging during the ultrasound examination of the entire vitreous chamber it is an extremely useful method. Ultrasound examination in combination with other imaging methods, e.g. optical coherent tomography, gives great diagnostic possibilities. Indications for this vitreous examination include scum, posterior vitreous detachment, proliferation, traction, vitreous haemorrhage, inflammation of the inside of the eye, vitreous degenerative changes, and post-traumatic changes.
