Summary: The aim of the study is to present cases of simultaneous surgery of bilateral congenital cataracts in infants, presentation of functional results obtained as well as the most common complications. Since 2011, at the Department of Paediatric Ophthalmology in University Clinical Center of Prof. K.Gibinski in Katowice, we performed 7 surgeries of simultaneous bilateral congenital cataract removal. This publication will describe 4 of them, which are currently under observation. After the surgery, all patients received spectacle correction of post-operative aphakia, local and general anti-inflammatory drugs and a schedule of follow-up visits at the Clinical Ophthalmology Outpatient. All operated children were born prematurely. The average age at which they underwent surgery was 14 weeks and the average body weight was 2852.2 grams. ROP was diagnosed in all cases, including 3 children requiring retinal laser therapy. Also in 3 patients secondary cataract removal was required.
