Summary: Ocular trauma with presence of an intraocular foreign body is an emergency. It can lead to the vision loss or even enucleation if not treated in time. Besides presence of the foreign material, it often involves combined injuries of ocular structures and risk of secondary complications. Proper treatment should be performed as soon as possible and can not be limited only to foreign body removal. The advances in vitrectomy enabled controlled, precise, foreign body extraction, reconstructive and profilactive procedures during one operation. It results in better prognosis for globe preservation and visual rehabilitation.
