Summary: The ultrasound biomicroscopic examination is a simple, noninvasive method of anterior segment imaging with high-frequency ultrasound use. It enables exact visualization of the anatomy of peripheral eye structures with almost histological precision. UBM is useful in diagnosing many disorders of the anterior segment, precise biometric measurement and visualization of peripheral eye structures. The authors evaluate different techniques of examination and use of UBM in certain ophthalmologic cases such as: intermediate uveitis, scleritis and episcleritis, cysts and tumors of the iris, ciliary body and glaucoma.
Keywords: ultrasound biomicroscopy, biometric measurement, uveitis, scleritis, anterior segment cysts, glaucoma.
