Summary: In postoperative period after cataract extraction with phacoemulsification, posterior capsule can be transparent or the opacifications can occur. The first clinical classification of the posterior capsule opacifications is Ostbauma’s classification. „Plaque” is a sediment (plate) on the posterior capsule surface present already during cataract surgery. The most common clinical classification of the posterior capsule opacificaion comprises regeneratory and fibrous forms. The different morphological categories occur in regeneratory type i.e. pearls, plates, „holes in cheese”, islands and stamps. Till now, there is no univocal classification of the PCO morphological forms.
Keywords: posterior capsule opacification, classification of opacifications, morphological forms of PCO.
