Summary: Aim of the study was to compare stereometric parameters of the optic disc and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) in both eyes of healthy volunteers and in patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). Material and methods: 50 healthy volunteers (control group) were qualified for further study. There were 30 females and 20 males, aged 46-81 years (mean 59.7 ? 9.57) and 50 patients with POAG, 38 females and 12 males, aged 45-72 years (mean 59.26 ? 7.42). In all examined patients we evaluated stereometric parameters of the optic disc and RNFL using HRT II device. Results were statistically analyzed with Mann-Whitney U test and logistic regression pattern. Results: Comparative analysis of patients with POAG and control group showed, that in all stereometric parameters of the optic disc and RNFL, both groups were statistically different. According to the logistic regression analysis, the most differentiating parameters between both groups were C/D and LC/D. Comparative analysis of the stereometric parameters in both eyes in control group showed, that the highest statistic differentiating impact was achieved with following parameters: RV, RNFL RNFLCSA and HVC. Logistic regression analysis pointed on RNFL, as the best differentiating parameter. Based on comparative analysis of stereometric parameters in POAG group we found, that the most important difference between both eyes was statistically significant in: RV, C/D, LC/D, CA, RA and RNFLCSA. Logistic regression analysis found LC/D to be the most important differentiating parameter. Conclusions: 1. Confocal scanning laser tomography (HRT II) examination allows to exactly analyze stereoscopic parameters of the optic disc, their acquisition and comparison. 2. Asymmetry of RNFL parameter may suggest the presence of glaucomatous damage in prepe- rimetric period. 3. Asymmetry of LC/D parameter is characteristic for advanced (perimetric) glaucoma.
