Summary: Purpose: The aim of
the study is to sum up a few-year diagnostic treatment
of glaucoma and it is results in a group of children
with suspected glaucoma.
Material and methods: The analysis embraced the
medical records of 25 patients (50 eyes) aged 3 to 16
years old, who had been diagnosed II cup/ disc ratio.
The children were hospitalized at Klinika Okulistyki IP
CZD for being affected by or suspected of glaucoma. The
observation period lasted from 2 to 4 years.
Results: Over the whole period of observation all
the patients demonstrated the normal level of
intra-ocular pressure. No progression in changes in the
optic nerve head was identified. No noticeable changes
were identified within the evaluated parameters such as
optic disc size, cup/ disc ratio, retinal nerve fiber
layer height. The changes in the visual field that had
been identified at the beginning of the observation
period were not observed in the final examination. No
visual field progression was detected. In growing
patients axial length changes were identified. In a few
children migraine or emotional headache were diagnosed.
In none of the analyzed patients glaucoma was diagnosed.
Some of them are still under observation.
Conclusions: In diagnosis of primary juvenile
glaucoma many factors should be considered as important
and valuable for obtaining correct results of
examination.
Keywords: primary juvenile glaucoma, diagnostics, abnormalities of the cup/ disc ratio.
