Summary: Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate results of botulinum toxin A treatment (BTA) in different types of strabismus in children. Material and methods: 22 children, aged between 7 months to 14 years with esotropia, exotropia and paralytic strabismus were treated with intramuscular injection of botulinum toxin A. In all cases the strabismus angle and eyeball motility were evaluated before and after injection. Children were divided according to age and type of strabismus. Botulinum toxin A was injected under general anesthesia. Results: During first two weeks after treatment hypercorrection was observed. Three months after injection initial deviation reappeared, but strabismus angle was significantly lower than before treatment. Botulinum toxin treatment improved eyeball motility in all cases. Conclusions: Botulinum toxin A treatment (BTA) in different types of strabismus in children is a good alternative way of treatment that improves eyeball motility.
