Summary: Abstract: Improvement of visual acuity and formation of normal binocular vision in the squinting children with not cured extramacular fixation in the second stage of the Szczecin?s school method. Aim: We present the behaviour of visual acuity in a squinting eye with initial eccentric fixation by mean of long-term systematic treatment with the localization method. Material and methods: 20 children with initial poor visual acuity of the squinting eye were studied. The subjects were systematically treated with eye patches and localization method during long period. They also had tests of binocular function. Results: We observed gradual slow improvement of visual acuity in all patients: three of them had 0.3 after 2 years, four of them had 0.9 after six years of treatment. Conclusions: We pay attention to the improvement of visual acuity dependent on the consolidation of the normal binocular vision.
Keywords: extramacular fixation, squint, visual acuity, binocular vision.
