Summary: The aim of our study was
to evaluate the cases of myopia and myopic astigmatism
treated in CMO LASER between 1996-2006.
Purpose: to analyse the cases of myopia and
myopic astigmatism treated in Eye Microsurgery Centre
LASER between 1996-2006 to evaluate long-term results of
surgical methods: PRK, LASIK, LASEK and examine the
disqualification reasons.
Design: Retrospective case – control study.
Participants: 1.035 patients receiving primary
LASIK, LASEK and photorefractive keratotomy.
Methods: All procedures were performed using MEL
60, MEL 70 G-Scan, LASIK procedures were performed with
microkeratom Hansatom B&L Main Outcome Measures. Non
corrected visual acuity UCVA and main complications
patient satisfaction.
Results: Patients aged between 20 and 30
comprised the largest group (605 cases – 58%).
Refractive errors in operated patients ranged between
-1.0 to – 12.0 Dsph and astigmatism between – 0.5 to –
6.00 Dcyl. The most frequent reasons for
disqualification included ≥12.0 D error, myopia, early
cataract and too low central corneal thickness (CCT).
UCVA was ≥0.8 in over 78% of eyes in 6-year observation
(680 of the analysed cases). Complications were few.
When asked in the satisfaction survey about their
satisfaction after the procedure, 79% of the surveyed
patients said they were satisfied.
Conclusions: The 6-year observation gave good,
satisfactory results. High patient satisfaction and only
few complications indicate that these procedures are
effective and safe.
