Summary: Pilomatricoma (calcyfing epithelioma Malherbe) is a slowly growing benign cutaneous tumor of the hair matrix cells, which often occurs in children. The clinical diagnosis is rarely made. Pilomatricoma should be included in the clinical differential diagnosis of subepidermal solid or cystic tumors. Complete surgical excision is the best management. Histopathological examination is necessary for that tumor diagnosis. The recurrence as well as cases of malignant evolution is rare.
Authors present 12 children (age 12 months to 14 years) with pilomatricoma of the eyelids and orbital region. We reviewed age, sex, picture, symptoms, tumor sites and duration. All patients were treated surgically. Histopathologic diagnosis was pilomatricoma. There was no early or late complication.
Keywords: pilomatricoma, children, eyelids, clinical symptoms, management, histopathology.
