Laser stimulation of the macula in the treatment of amblyopia in children

Summary: Purpose: The results of using laser stimulation of the macula in the treatment of amblyopia in children with central and excentric fixation. Materials and methods: Laser stimulation of macula was carried out in two groups of children aged 5 to 11 years. In the first group there were 30 children with central fixation. In the second group there were 30 children with excentric fixation. The period of observation was 3 years. The laser stimulation was carried out in the cycle of 10 days every 3 or 6 months. During the stimulation were used another methods of amblyopia treatment. Results: In the group of children with central fixation visual acuity was improved by 0.3-0.7 and it was a better result than in group of children with excentric fixation where the visual acuity was improved by 0.0-0.2. Conclusions: The results of amblyopia treatment with laser stimulation of the macula are better in group of children with central fixation than in group of children with excentric fixation.
