Summary: Diabetes Mellitus is a common disease in human population and it would cause blindness till 2030 year in 366 million people. Diabetic retinopathy is a serious adverse event which is a leading cause of new-onset blindness in industrialized countries and more and more frequent cause of blindness in middle-income countries. Data about diabetic retinopathy epidemiology are presented based on the review of available medical literature.
