Summary: Purpose: Presentation of stressed induced accommodative spasm method of treatment using spherical lenses (plus lenses) while reading Snellen’s charts at variable distances from the eye.
Material and Methods: The study involved a group of young people (13–20 years old) exposed to stress, complaining of discomfort while looking into distance and difficulty in reading. The ophthalmological findings consisted of low myopia, concentric narrowing of the visual field, failure to accommodate at near vision and exophoria. The method developed by us is reading each eye separately with +1.00 D or +1.50 D letters on Snellen chart from different distances.
Results: Short pre-exercise (in the office) with +1.00 D (10 minutes) improved visual acuity on the Snellen chart and myopia has been reduced
to 0.25–0.50 D. In patients performing regular exercises at home after a 10–15 min per day improved visual comfort was achieved. Discussion: While reading optotypes with spectacles from different distances ciliary muscle function changes, which in turn forces the cerebral cortex to "exercise" in shifting conditions. We emphasize the importance of regular exercises as the basis of treatment success. It is necessary to remove the cause of stress in order to achieve complete treatment, and to use our exercises.
