Summary: Purpose: To determine correlation between cataract surgery outcome and patients’ quality of life and to analyse factors worsening patients’ quality of life after noncomplicated surgery.
Methods: In a prospective study VFQ-25 questionnaire was administered to patients undergoing cataract surgery before and after procedure and their visual acuity was measured in the same time, general health questionnaire was complited. Final analysis include: analysis of visual acuity and quality of life changes, correlations between them and analysis of other factors influencing final quality of life.
Results: Cataract surgery improved visual acuity in majority of cases (85%). Quality of life was also better after surgery thought in our study this improvement was not statistically significant (p> 0.05). There was no correlation between visual acuity improvement and quality of life (p=0.8944). Quality of life was seriously influent by other eye and general diseases or conditional problems.
Conclusions: Cataract surgery improves not only visual acuity but also quality of life patients after cataract surgery. There is no direct correlation between postoperative better visual acuity and final quality of life. There are a lot of other factors (eye disorders, general diseases, physical condition, independency in everyday life) influencing quality of life.
