Summary: Purpose: Congenital optic nerve head abnormalities are a group of structural malformations of optic nerve head and surrounding tissues. These anomalies are classified according to abnormalities of optic disc size or conformation and by the presence of abnormal tissue at the nerve head (pseudoswelling). Congenital anomalies of the optic nerve are quite rare but could be significant causes of visual impairment or blindness in children and adults. Some of the congenital optic nerve head abnormalities are related to neurologic and systemic disorders. In current clinical practice accurate diagnosis is usually based on a funduscopic examination. Imaging information garnered from optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography are helpful to confirm the correct diagnosis, prognosis, and management of these pathology. Results: We present the optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography imagining of most common in clinical practice congenital optic nerve anomalies, including optic disc coloboma, morning glory disc anomaly, optic pit excavation, myelinated nerve fibres, megallopapilla and tilted discs.
Discussion: Review of the literature have been supported by the experiences from clinical practice of the authors.
