Summary: Pediatric galucoma is a various group of disorders characterised by high intraocular pressure and optic nerve damage. The disease is developing as a result of structural disorders pathological pathways for aqueous humour as well a pathology of other parts of eye. It may coexist with embriolgical disorders and intraocular tumor. The illnes can also be caused by injuries, inflamations of optic equipment or applied medicines. Pediatric glaucoma is not as common as glaucoma in adults. In the literature, we can also find many divisions of glaucoma in children. The most common is congenital glaucoma. Clinical symptoms are diffrent depending on type of glaucoma. Sometimes they can be observed during the birth. Diagnosing with pediatric glaucoma may be quite difficult because of possibile problems associated with ophthalmological examination, especially in infants and young children. Surgical treatment is typically a first-line treatment in congenital glaucoma, but pharmacological treatment is often in juvenile glaucoma and some types of secondary glaucoma. The most popular techniques are goniotomy and trabeculotomy ab externo. Concerning antiglaucoma drugs, the most common are beta-receptor antagonists and prostaglandyn analogues.
