Summary: Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is a systemic age-related disease, which affects almost 70 million people globally. Since the discovery of pseudoexfoliation syndrome 100 years ago by Dr John Gustaf Lindberg, there has been considerable advancement in understanding its pathogenesis and resulting clinical implications. Pseudoexfoliation syndrome also affects ophthalmic arteries by decreasing blood flow velocities and increasing vascular resistance. Moreover, it is a risk factor for central retinal vein occlusion. Individuals affected by, also show higher incidence of cerebral vascular abnormalities, senile dementia, cerebral atrophy, Alzheimer’s type dementia, pulmonary diseases, sensory-neural hearing loss.
