Summary: Epiphora is the most irritating clinical manifestation of nasolacrimal duct obstruction. Surgical treatment in lacrimal pathway obstruction has been known for more than 300 years. External or endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy is the standard therapy for nasolacrimal duct obstruction in managing epiphora. New innovative surgical techniques and adjunctive methods, such as insertion of silicone tubes and use of laser energy, for the treatment of nasolacrimal obstruction are being introduced continually. Nowadays, it is impossible to state unequivocally, which of these methods has the best results. Each one of them has an advantages and disadvantages. All methods provide removal to the obstruction or to create a new tear outflow path. The aim of this study is to review the surgical methods of nasolacrimal duct obstruction treatment, based on current literature.
